I'm honoured to share that my Made by Living Creatures series has been selected as a finalist for the Profile 2025 Contemporary Jewellery Award. This recognition means a great deal, especially as the series explores themes central to my practice: the very concept evolved from a reflection on co-creating with Earth — celebrating the shared effort between nature and human hands.
At the heart of this series is a quiet reverence for materials quite literally made by life: shells, coral, pearls, silk cocoons and leather. Offerings of nature — raw, textural.
Shell neckpieces are handcrafted - no tools! - using shells from NSW beaches, already bearing natural holes, formed by marine gastropods — creatures that drill into living shells in search of food. Chain-like shell links, sea-worn, connected with kangaroo leather. The centrepiece ring, Vessel of New Sublime, holds hand-carved conch shell flowers resting in a white silk cocoon — a symbol of both protection and transformation. Its recycled silver base was formed entirely by hand. These materials were not only chosen for their unrefined beauty, but also for their stories — of metamorphosis, shared effort between nature and human hands, and the enduring impulse to create.
Several pieces from this series were first shown at Runway in the Reef during the Melbourne Fashion Festival, set against the surreal backdrop of the Melbourne Aquarium — a fitting stage for jewellery rooted in the ocean’s mysteries.
This nomination feels like a natural continuation of the journey — from raw material to wearable sculpture, from hidden forms to statement pieces.
Now on display at Australian Design Centre, exhibiting till 17th of May.
